I’m back. Large as life and twice as loud. LOL
Listening to the soundtrack from “The Boat that Rocked” and doing a little blogging. I haven’t seen the movie, but I hear it got rather poor reviews. The music, however, is terrific. Nothing like a little Britpop to cheer you up.
The party’s over, the guests are gone, The Princess and her mother have calmed down. The house is no where near back to normal, whatever “normal” in this place is, but…
Finally, some quilting time. I do love long weekends.
I have such a large number of small tasks that add up to way too ambitious a to-do list, but now at least I can make a start.
So what’s a girl to do when there’s too much on her plate? Start another quilt, of course!
These fabrics

from the Marie Antoinette range by RJR (with the exception of the pale tan spotty stuff), have become this

Rose of Sharon block. It will finish at 24” square and will be on point as the medallion of a sampler quilt two friends and I are working on. We are all doing the same quilt, though as one of the girls wants to teach this quilt as the sampler class in her shop, I think I may change up some of the sampler blocks as she will need to include blocks suitable for beginning quilters. I guess we will end up with three different quilts evolving from the same centre block.
The appliqué is fused and will be machine blanket stitched – not my choice, but I am working in with the others, and realistically I don’t have time to needle turn at the moment. I have also discovered that these fabrics are no longer my style, though I do like them and think the quilt will be lovely. They are a little too “blended quilt” for my current taste.
I in turn have taken the other two out of their comfort zones by working on a deeper background than they would choose. I rarely buy fabrics from the background section of the shelves.
I was also lucky enough to receive a couple of gifts yesterday. This pattern from Jenny

which means I am compelled to shop for lots and lots of red and other bright fabrics. I am not a follower of pattern colours generally, but I’m so taken with the idea of what is a fairly traditional applique quilt on a red background. I do love a bit of red.
Of course I have no idea when I will find time to make it as I already have a couple of hand work projects on the go and I haven’t had a chance to work on them in quite some time. Then there is the Dear Jane (aka It Will See Me Out project). A girl can dream.
I found these on my bed when I got home from quilting yesterday

A gift from The Princess because I had admired her new red shoes. She found these on sale and thought of me.
I wonder if I click my heels will they take me back to Kansas? Pam, you could pick me up from there! ROFLMAO
Have a lovely long weekend everyone, I certainly plan to.

I saw that movie solely to hear the soundtrack , which was right down my alley !!!
The reviews were correct it was crap but worth seeing just to see
Bill Nighy dance .
Not to mention the lovely young actor Tom Sturridge who wore a Liberty print shirt in many scenes.
ooooh, I love it all!!!!
Love the shoes… I want to learn to quilt. I upgraded to a combo embroidery/sewing machine, so I can adventure a bit more. really digging the embroidery part.
Just made curtains for our airstream caravan. Now I’ve got to tackle seat cushion covers. I made a simple quilted sewing machine cover from scratch (no blocks yet) and enjoyed it.
Funny, but my high school sewing teacher did do a good job teaching us certain skills. I’m amazed at what I can do!
This beginner is hooked!
Gotta love red shoes! And Kansas is just a hop, skip and a planeride away! You betcha I’d getcha!!!
